Open Families will volunteer with a wonderful program called East Oakland Burrito Roll
When: December 7th from 10:30-12
Who: East Oakland Burrito Roll is a non profit whose mission is ‘to take direct action and feed our unsheltered community members. We hope to empower and inspire the world to have solidarity with our unhoused neighbors. Anyone can make an impact with simple actions like sharing water, food or even just a conversation.’ For more information, check out their website at https://www.eastoaklandburritoroll.org/
Where: Oakland City Church 2735 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland. (enter the building on the right, look for ‘Chapel’ sign on the left of the door, go down stairs to the right and enter the cafeteria/gym and find the kitchen at the back of the cafeteria). Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Long hair needs to be put in a pony tail.
What: ‘The East Oakland Burrito Roll is a gathering of community members who cook delicious, fresh food and deliver it directly to our unhoused Brothers and Sisters living in the East Bay. We cook vegan burritos using fresh ingredients and then deliver them directly to encampments in East Oakland and West Oakland. Everyone is welcome to lend a hand and help us cook fresh food for our unhoused Brothers and Sisters, which we then deliver directly to curbside communities all over Oakland. If you have other items to donate such as lightly used blankets, dog food, water, pillows, clothes (only brand-new socks/undergarments accepted), dishware or other useful items feel free to bring them too.’
Duties: Prepare ingredients and roll burritos. If volunteers want and there is a need, delivering the burritos to homeless encampments may be an option.
